Can I automatically trace my area?

Select the magic wand from the toolbar on the right and click inside the space you want to select.

Select the irregular area you wish to calculate.

Controls will appear along the top of the screen allowing the user to change the tolerance (the color and contrast of pixels included in the selection) and the outline (the number of adjacent pixels included in the selection). Use these sliders to adjust the selection until it describes the area you wish to calculate.

In addition, shapes that contain holes can be calculated when checking the box for ‘compound shapes’. Compound shapes will create multiple layers which allow the user to sum the area of the holes. Helpful to manually subtract the area of holes from a shape.

Calculate area of compound shapes with holes.

It’s also possible to add and subtract, to and from, a selection using the wand+ and wand- tools found below the wand in the toolbar.

When ready, submit the selection with the tick symbol along the right of the control bar to convert the selection into editable layer/s.

Submit the selection to calculate the area or areas of compound shapes.
